“I was married to one for about a decade, and it was horrible. He was a sweet man, but a terrible partner. I was young and in love, so I ignored all of the red flags. Over the course of our marriage, he secretly opened four credit cards where he ran up unbelievable balances (several thousand each) and made no attempt to pay them back; I had to pay bills on payday because he’d immediately go out and spend all of our money on foolish things like trading cards and exorbitant meals for friends. He also ‘loaned’ thousands of dollars to his family, none of which was ever paid back. He repeatedly ‘cleaned’ by throwing all of my stuff away (never his, only mine) and rearranging furniture. He didn’t have a driver’s license until I forced him to get one, which meant that for most of our relationship, I had to pick him up and drop him off everywhere, which usually meant I was stuck waiting at places for extended periods.”
