"Your Clothes Are Actually Dirty": This Expert Is Sharing The One Thing He Always Stays Away From When Doing Laundry
āIām always going to use laundry soap … Itās soap thatās made [specifically] for laundry and then itās grated or ground,ā Richardson said. āItās going to be the cleanest, most gentle [choice].ā
But it can be difficult to find, so, if itās not available, he recommends buying detergent made specifically for baby clothes, which is also going to be gentle. Just make sure youāre not using pods.
āI donāt care if [your laundry detergent] comes as powder or liquid, but I donāt like pods because I donāt like that you canāt control the amount,ā he said. āYou donāt need a podās worth of detergent … I think you only need about two tablespoons of detergent [for a load]so a bottle of laundry detergent might last you a year because you only need a couple of tablespoons for your clothes to come out clean.ā
Richardson advised that a little detergent goes a long way, like salt.
āWhen youāre cooking and the recipe says a half tablespoon of salt, and you put it in, itās delicious,ā he said. āBut if youāre like, āI love salt,ā and you put in a whole cup, itās ruined, itās not better. So thatās how to think about detergent: a little bit is really good, because it does what itās supposed to do. If you add a whole lot more, you actually ruin it.ā
